Curriculum

What does your child learn at school each day? Find information about our curriculum subjects here.

The Exmoor Federation Curriculum document demonstrates the skills and progressions in each subject area for all year groups across the Federation. It is a working document and is currently undergoing some amendments and will be completed early in the Spring term 2022. We are, at present, updating our French and Outdoor Learning subject areas.

Please bear with us.

Curriculum Document

Our enthusiastic staff work hard to deliver an inspiring curriculum which has been carefully planned.

In all areas of our curriculum we aim to engage, motivate and stretch each child. We do this by providing stimulating lessons that are purposeful, enjoyable and responsive to each child. We intend to promote the development of children intellectually, socially, physically and morally to provide children with the basic skills they need for life.

In the Foundation Stage, children continue the curriculum begun at their Pre-school, nursery or other child care setting.

In Key Stage One and Two the children follow the National Curriculum which has been a legal requirement in schools since 1988. The new National Curriculum for primary schools covers: English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art and Design, Physical Education and Computing. Religious Education is also included in the basic curriculum by law, along with Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

A balanced and broadly‑based curriculum cannot be obtained through the National Curriculum alone. Other formal and informal curriculum activities are included to enrich the children’s school experience so that they acquire the skills, concepts, knowledge, attitudes and values that they will need for subsequent learning and adult life.
